Phil Twiss, the local voice for Buckerell, Feniton, Gittisham and Honiton at County Hall
Phil has lived and worked in the Honiton area for most of his life and understands the challenges the whole area faces from his experience and knowledge as a District and County Councillor over many years. He thoroughly understands the workings of Honiton, together with the needs and aspirations of people who live in and around Honiton.
Phil is very well known in the Honiton area through his business, social and sporting connections, with particular interests in cricket, football and rugby. He is an avid supporter of both Exeter Chiefs and Somerset CC. He is married and has a daughter.
Through his council work, he takes every opportunity to promote our lovely part of the world in which he has a particular interest. Working for those who often just need a little extra support with important day to day issues. And he is tenacious in finding solutions to problems
Phil says “I run a ‘permanent’ residents surgery in the town where I am very well known as someone who gets things done and to the frustration of my long suffering wife it can sometimes take me over and hour to buy a paper and a bottle of milk because people stop me to discuss issues that concern them. Being a member of both Devon and East Devon District Councils gives me broad and extensive knowledge about the key issues that concern people most”.
Among other things Phil sits on the DCC Adult Health Scrutiny committee where his focus is on the Health and Wellbeing Sector. This has evolved beyond what I had anticipated where I am the DCC Health liaison between organisations such as the NHS and DCC Social Care Teams. He is a firm believer in and has a passion for healthcare service being delivered locally and takes every opportunity to promote the case for more in Honiton
He is a Governor of the R, D & E NHS Trust, where he has contribution has been welcomed in what has been the most difficult year for the R, D & E and the NHS. His work there helps to brief fellow Councillors, members of the public and senior members of DCC in an informed way. Phil is also a Governor of Honiton Primary School helping to ensure that future generations of Honitonians get the best possible education from an early age.
Phil has been able to support many local organisations with financial assistance from his Locality Budget, ranging from Honiton Hospital League of Friends, Devon Freewheelers, Gittisham Village Hall, Feniton and Honiton Primary Schools to name a few and will continue to make sure support for local people is continued to be offered.
