Westexe businesses, have been “cast adrift” says Cllr Bob Evans, following refusal by Cllr Alex White, Finance Porfolio Holder, to re-examine the offer of free parking brought in following the Conservative led call for Mid Devon to follow the example of neighbouring authorities.
Liberal Democrat, Cllr White has taken the decision not to extend the offer to Westexe. Saying he believes this to be a fair offer and ignoring the negative economic impact this decision will have in the area.
Cllr Evans says “Such a move is both short sighted and shows how out of touch the coalition are when it comes to the survival of our local business community. I am extremely disappointed and saddened that the coalition think so little of the people and businesses of Westexe and cannot see the longer term benefits from extending the scheme.
Westexe is a vital commercial sector that supports a number of independent traders and local jobs, that has effectively been cut adrift by the coalition, quite frankly this is an appalling decision.
It is a sad reflection on how the MDDC Lid Dem/ Independent coalition fail to recognise the importance of local businesses and local jobs“
