After a radio career spanning some 40 years, Colin moved to Tiverton in June 2009, and was elected to the Town and District Councils in May 2011. (He has since been coaxed out of retirement and is now back on the air with Radio Exe on Sunday afternoons).
Colin was elected to Devon County Council for the Tiverton East Division in 2017 and is Chairman of the Grand Western Canal Joint Advisory Committee and Chair of the Devon Pension board. His priories include Road Safety, from speeding to potholes and resurfacing. He works closely with Devon County Highways officers supporting the Doing What Matters Plan as well as the Police and Crime Commissioner and local police, and regards community policing as vital to the well-being of our communities.
He is committed to serving the local communities and has used his Locality Budget most effectively with grants to local schools, community groups and charities across Tiverton, Halberton and Uplowman totalling around £40,000. He is also involved in several other local organisations, as a trustee of Tiverton Museum,Tiverton Community Arts Theatre and Tiverton Adventure Playground.
Colin is privileged and proud to have served as Mayor of Tiverton 2019-21 and has attended key events, supported the local community and made awards to local groups from the Mayor’s Community Fund.
At MDDC he is Cabinet Member for The Environment and Climate Change which he regards as one of our most important challenges. This coincides with his role as a member of Devon County Council’s Scrutiny Climate Change Standing Overview Group. He is also very concerned about litter and fly tipping and has worked with Tiverton Volunteer Litter Pickers.
