Richard Chesterton is standing in Tiverton West for the first time but be reassured he is no stranger to either the area or the challenges being faced by local government. He will build on the hard work achieved over the past twelve years by your current County Councillor Polly Colthorpe, who has decided to step down from the County Council.
Richard is currently a councillor on Mid Devon and has Cabinet responsibility for Planning and Economic Regeneration. He lives close to Tiverton and brings a wealth of experience in identifying and delivering objectives for the benefit of those he represents and the district.
As we head into Covid recovery Richard fully understands the need for Councils to work with town centre businesses to survive and thrive again. With his cabinet position Richard understands the importance of reinvigorating our town centres to encourage shoppers to return.
As a councillor on Mid Devon he has been actively involved in issues within his own ward as well as throughout the distict via his Cabinet role. He has worked closely with Devon County members and officers on a number of projects, including sucessful funding bids for a new junction for Tiverton on the A361 and a relief road for Cullompton, securing £18M in total. He has also previously sat as a district member on Devon County's Highway and Traffic Order Committee, so gained a good understanding of the types of highway issues that are of concern to residents in Tiverton West.
Richard is campaigning for A new school for Tiverton, Investment in roads, supporting small businesses, reopening Tiverton Police Station to the public and a faster broadband delivery in Tiverton West.
