Ray has lived in Halberton all his life. Married to Mary with one daughter, and three grandchildren.
Ray now enjoys watching the sports he once played as a younger man; rugby and cricket and he was a champion car rally driver. In 2018 he entered the revival RAC Lombard Rally with his grandson, Henry.
Through his business and family connections Ray has a strong local connection to the area in which he lives and with local residents. Ray is self-employed working in transport and farming.
Ray has been involved in many charitable organisations – from Young Farmers to Round Table and now as a founder member of the Exe Valley Rotary Club.
The County Council Division Ray represents encompasses the villages of: Sampford Peverell; Burlescombe; Huntsham; Holcombe Rogus; Hockworthy; Clayhanger; Clyst Hydon; Hemyock; Culmstock; Willand and Uffculme – these last two villages giving the Division its name of Willand & Uffculme.
To keep up to date with what is happening in his very rural area, Ray regularly attends meetings with all Parish Councils. Ray enjoys helping people and getting things done for our communities he is passionate about the area and its character.
Ray has been able to support many local organisations with financial help from his Locality Budget. A Councillor’s Locality Budget allows him/her to make a contribution to projects that benefit a community. Ray has been able to support a number of projects throughout his division and include a skate park to provide a safe place of play for children; creation of a village wildflower meadow; assisting with the creation of a Men in Sheds facility and defibrillators in a number of locations. More recently he has been helping local clubs and societies, such as primary school PTAs, scouts and guides, who have been unable to fundraise during the present crisis. Ray has been working hard together with local residents to try to oppose inappropriate development in Sampford Peverell.
Ray has actively been campaigning for better Rural Broadband together with our MP, Neil Parish.
He is also actively Supporting The Grand Western Canal which is such an important feature in our division.
